The Big Song Writing Collaboration

Time:
9:15am - 2:30pm
Date:
Friday 4 February
Location:
Spires Academy

Event objectives:

To offer experience of writing a song with music industry professional Gavin Alexander.

The day will give students the opportunity to work to a brief based on memoirs of residents from a local Retirement Home. This project is designed for students to develop confidence in working with others from different schools as well as developing relationships with the older generations in the local community.

The event will improve student’s communication skills and their ability to work to a realistic brief – a skill that is required in many sectors when considering career options. Schools should target students who don’t always get chosen or selected to perform for events and/or who may have a hidden lyric writing talent.

Note that this opportunity is funded by Canterbury City Council and is open to schools within the Canterbury district only.

Skills development:

Teamwork, strategic thinking, communication, working with new people, perseverance, trouble shooting, working to a brief.
