Covering sensitive / controversial topics whilst teaching

As teachers we will inevitably touch upon sensitive topics – whether that’s slavery as part of History, gender as part of Biology, or homosexuality as part of Religious Education.  

The reactions we get from pupils will vary enormously. Intolerance of diversity often has its roots in conditioning from upbringing and a lack of education. Yet how can we address this in a classroom setting when the needs of the pupils can be so varied? This session will equip you with practical ways of addressing the diversity of pupil responses in a compassion way and open up discussions of differing viewpoints.
