Contemporary Dance Workshop- hosted by The Abbey School, Faversham 14th June 2023

When: 14 th June 2023 from 9.30- 12. 30pm (please arrive promptly!)
Location: The Abbey School, London Rd, Faversham ME13 8RZ
Students: For students in Years 7, 8 and 9

Event objective:
This collaborative workshop will be a unique opportunity for students from across the partnership to come
together to build confidence, develop communication skills and develop their creativity in a morning
workshop of Contemporary Dance. The aim will be to provide a workshop to students introducing them to
a repertoire of dance vocabulary which they will then develop throughout various tasks in the session. The
workshop will encourage students to develop key transferrable skills through the enjoyment of Dance.
Dance is a fantastic way to build confidence all whilst meeting new people. We hope this will positively
impact wellbeing and resilience and provide a great introduction to Contemporary Dance which will
prepare for those opting to take GCSE Dance when the time comes. The event will be purely for enjoyment
and we hope students' wellbeing will be improved by participating in this opportunity.
Practicalities:
Students to attend in their own comfortable clothes and to bring a water-bottle. Students will be required
to dance in barefeet. No prior dance knowledge is required. Students will have a break during the session
where a snack and refreshments will be provided.
Evaluation: The event will be evaluated by all students attending.
What partner schools need to do next:
1. Allocate a lead teacher for this event (we only need one present from each school during the event)
2. Identify four students who would benefit from attending the event.
3. By Friday 5 June provide the names of the students attending, photo permissions and a contact number
for lead teacher.
